You just mentioned that as interviewers that you often didn’t spend 5 minutes looking at the candidate’s resume, yet it’s disrespectful if the candidate can’t say why they applied? Why does the respect need to flow only one way? Why is the assumption always that they applied at all? Every time I interview it’s because a recruiter reached out to me and sold me on interviewing. So when I’m asked why I applied it puts me in an awkward position to choose between playing a funny dishonest courtship game where I pretend that I applied when actually I recently talked with the recruiter that promised me the stars, or respond “I didn’t apply, the recruiter reached out to me” and then I can visibly see the facial expressions saying “not a culture fit.”
