I think this method falls apart when you add your custom view to a tableview cell.

…and found an alternative solution that you can use to avoid adding subviews. The magic happens with:shadowLayer.path = UIBezierPath(roundedRect: bounds, cornerRadius: cornerRadius).cgPath
